Locals in Salida and Buena Vista don’t mind that the smorgasbord of trails here are lesser know than other Colorado biking destinations. Roadies cruising sweet low traffic routes have as much to relish as fat tire enthusiasts. Bring on the spokes!

The highway portions have a nice wide shoulder, and the great views of the Sawatch Range, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and Arkansas Hills are always a treat. |

MTB – Monarch Crest Classic Shuttle Route - The Monarch Crest is one of the finest mountain bike rides in Colorado. A fantastic high altitude singletrack above treeline, remote but easily accessed, the Crest Trail treats you to jaw-dropping views while traversing a section of the Continental Divide Trail between Monarch and Marshall Passes.
MTB – Agate Creek Loop - This ride has it all--smooth dirt road climbing on Old Monarch Pass, incredible views from above timberline on the Crest Trail, and sweet technical descending on Agate Creek Trail. An outstanding backcountry epic mountain bike loop.
MTB - Rainbow Trail - Bear Creek/Methodist Mountain Loop - A popular and convenient 2-4 hour loop, this ride starts and finishes in downtown Salida, and features a fine stretch of twisty Rainbow Trail singletrack. It includes a stout and increasingly rough climb up Bear Creek road to the Rainbow trailhead, offers stunning views of the upper Arkansas River valley, and finishes with a ripping fireroad descent on county road 108.
MTB – Mt. Princeton Hill Climb - This challenging ride will take you to the edge of tree line on one of Colorado's most picturesque Fourteeners. Riding to the top of this road will give you an unrivaled appreciation for the sheer size of this commanding peak.

MTB – Colorado Trail – South Fooses Creek - This section of the Colorado Trail follows Fooses creek up into a lush high elevation mountain valley. A great escape from the heat in the summer months, you have a good chance of seeing one of the areas Elk herds along this lush singletrack.
MTB – Cascade Rail Trail Out & Back - This ride is perfect for those new to mountain biking and high elevations. It follows a stretch of Denver, South Park and Pacific narrow gauge rail line constructed in a race to cross the continental divide by rail. A wide, mostly crushed gravel trail overlooking Chalk Creek and the Mt Princeton Chalk Cliffs, it climbs at no more than 5% to a turnaround at beautiful Cascade Falls.
MTB – Marshall Pass – Colorado/Silvercreek/Rainbow Loop
MTB – Marshall Pass – Colorado/Starvation Creek/Rainbow Loop
MTB – Marshall Pass – Silvercreek/Rainbow Loop - This ride is a great sampling of what the Marshall Pass area has to offer, with a long moderate climb followed by miles of singletrack descending, and should appeal to riders who like to 'earn their turns'!
MTB – Salida - Lookout Loop - A popular ride-from-town Salida route, Lookout Loop takes you into the Arkansas Hills east of town. As you return to town, a traversing section gives you killer views of the whole Upper Arkansas Valley, before the trail drops precipitously into a series of rock gardens and switchbacks.
MTB - Salida – The Crater - This ride takes you to a prominent geological feature visible from downtown Salida--The Crater. While not truly a "crater" of the volcanic or meteoric kind, but rather a unique formation of rock layers exposed by erosion, The Crater nevertheless is an interesting place to visit, and has one of the best views of the upper Arkansas Valley.
MTB – Salida – Ute Trail to Turret
MTB – Alpine Tunnel Out & Back - This trail is great for riders of all abilities. As for variety, this ride has it all: excellent scenery, sweeping alpine vistas, historical significance, and a chance to pedal along one of the more moderate sections of the Continental Divide Trail.

| MTB – Fourmile - Midland Trail Out & Back - This is a great ride that nearly everyone will enjoy.
